the report:
Drumcong make it two in a row. The long awaited final, cancelled on many occasions due to bad weather took place on Thursday June 13th in Fenagh. It took both teams a while to settle down, Claire Kelly kept Drumcong in the game making a few vital saves early on and after some good defending and a few wides from both sides, eventually Aine Tighe broke the deadlock with a goal after 15 minutes, and that was the half time score 1-0 to 0-0.The two teams began the second half unchanged, but Drumcong were the hungrier and knew what they needed to do. With some great moves from the goalie to the back line, to mid-field, the forwards got a plentiful supply of the ball and soon Aine made it goal no. 2. Now Drumcong were really playing. Sinead Tighe and Tara Evans were taking control of mid-field with some lovely passing moves to Aoife McWeeney and Sinead Byrne, they again found Aine and the move was completed with another goal. Mohill never gave up and came back with a good goal and a point to make the game closer. Captain Kathy Beirne got a good ball down to Aoife McWeeney who finished off with a lovely point. Aine scored another point to keep us well ahead. Tara Evans and Sinead Tighe scored a point each, before Aine destroyed Mohill with two more goals to make her tally 5-01. Mohill kept trying and scored 1-2 to leave the final score 5-4 to 2-3. Christine Gill, Kathy Beirne and Clodagh Foley defended excellently all throughout the match. Claire Kelly played brilliant in goals after been called in at short notice. Sinead and Tara worked very hard at mid-field and our three forwards never gave up fighting for possession. Michelle Fleming replaced Clodagh in the second half and played well. All our young subs cannot wait for their day to come in the red & green. Trainer Regina Bohan had all the girls in great shape for today’s final.
Cumann na mBunscol chairperson Dessie Doyle presented the cup to the victorious captain Kathy Beirne and joyful celebrations commenced. The team done a tour of the parish and enjoyed food and minerals in Gerties Canal Stop afterwards. Thanks to Mrs. White, Regina Bohan and Helen Tighe for all their help. Subs: Niamh Tighe, Ciara McWeeney, Karen Murray,
