Kiltubrid Gaelic Football Club, Co. Leitrim, Ireland

Aughawillan were the stronger and better balanced team and they put pressure on the Kiltubrid goals from the start but the Kiltubrid girls were very brave. Goalkeeper Nicole McMahon was safe and did not let in any goals throughout the two games. The back line of Claire Kelly, Christine Gill and Aine Tighe repelled many Aughawillan attacks. Kiltubrid’s midfielders Sinead Tighe and Tara Evans fought hard against two stronger opponents, these two girls work rates was immense. Tara scored two points from frees and Sinead a great goal, and she was so unlucky to have another goal late in the game called back by referee Mary Shanley only for her to give a 13 meter free. In the forwards Sinead Byrne, Sharon Moran, Aoife McWeeney and later Clodagh Foley fought hard for possession. Aoife was strong on the ball and got two nice points but she had to come out the field too far to get good ball and therefore a scoring threat nearer goal was diminished. All in all Kiltubrid were up against it in this game but they had loads of spirit and that spirit was typified by Aine Tighe in the first half as she raided up the wing repeatedly on solo runs, a great little bit of stuff is young Aine.
