An evenly contested U-14 Championship Final ended all square as Kiltubrid & St. Mary’s shared the spoils in Dromod on Monday evening last. St. Mary’s opened the scoring with a point but Kiltubrid responded with a point from Captain Siobhan Kelly. In the next two minutes Tara Evans put over a point from play. St. Mary’s took control of the game in the next five minutes with two goals and a point from play. Next was Kiltubrids turn to dominate. Christine Gill blocked and cleared the ball down to Tara Evans who pounced for a goal followed by another point. As did Siobhan Kelly to bring them right back in to the game. St. Mary’s replied with a point. St. Mary’s then exchanged points with Kiltubrids Aoife McWeeney. Going into the last five minutes of the half, Siobhan Kelly again pointed another score from a Karen Quinn clearance. Another point gave St. Mary’s a narrow 2-7 to 2-6 lead at the break. In the opening minute of the second half, Kiltubrid leveled with a point through Lisa McWeeney, but St. Mary’s responded with another. Sinead Tighe kicked over a fine point from far out to level yet again. St. Mary’s then came back and kicked over two points. Next Kiltubrid’s Claire Judge made a fine burst up the centre of the pitch to kick a fine point. Full forward Helene Duignan kicked over a point from close range following an Aine Tighe run. Into injury time, St. Mary’s narrowly led by a point but this was thankfully equalised by Aoife McWeeney with a point from play.
