  • Student of the Year:

  • Congratulations to Club Assistant Treasurer Kevin Nealon who was awarded the Student of the Year at the recent Graduation ceremony at the Mohill Computer Programme.  Kevin deserves great credit for his efforts to overcome life's difficulties.  His attendance at this advanced computer course over the past 12 months and his achievements to date are a nark of this young man's character and willingness to succeed.  We wish Kevin all the best for 2001 and the years ahead in his career.

  • Leitrim GAA Millennium:

  • Just finished reading this very good production with many interesting articles.  Every club has a section allocated to it and all clubs are in alphabetical order.  I won't spoil your appetite as you may wish to get a copy fro yourself, you will be delighted you went along to your local book outlet and purchased a copy.

  • The Two Gerrys':

  • Hard luck to dual stars Gerry Winters and Gerry Gilmartin who were a part of the Gortletteragh panel defeated by St. Mary's in the County Hurling final in Pairc Sean last weekend.

  • Happy 2001:

  • To all players, mentors, club officers and all our valued supporters and sponsors, to all ex-club players, members overseas we say may you all have a health, happiness and prosperity for the New Year ahead.

Monday 18th December, 2000 

• Club AGM:

• The AGM has been postponed until Saturday 6th January 2001, everyone is asked to attend the meeting in Liscarbon at 5pm SHARP.

Monday 11th December, 2000 

• Club AGM:

• Next Sunday is "D" Day, it's our Annual General Meeting and it takes place in Liscarbon Social Center at 1.30pm sharp.  That is Sunday 17th December and a good attendance of all old and new members will be most welcome.

• Aughavas Win League:

• Well done to Aughavas who completed the double by winning the Senior league last Sunday.  They achieved it at Allen Gaels expense, so though luck to our neighbours.

• New Chairman:

• Congratulations to Michael McGowan of Melvin Gaels who was voted in as County Board Chairman at the convention last Saturday, we wish him luck in his new role and also say well done to outgoing Chairman Des Quinn.

• Reflection:

• Now that we have come to the end of the year and its AGM time again its no harm to have a look back at the year that was.  We may not have seen much silver but never the less it has been a very successful year for the club.

• Senior Team:

• This was a great year for our newly promoted Senior team.  The team performed very well in Division One under the guiding hand of the experienced Mickey Dorrigan.  We comfortably stayed up in the Senior league the highlight of which was a great win over our neighbours Fenagh, indeed this victory set us up for the year ahead and was a great confidence builder.  In the championship too we had our moments, a great performance in our first game against the County Champions -Manorhamilton, only losing by one point, followed by a victory over Mohill and then we were edged out by the best club team in the county Aughavas in a good game in Carrick.  After that it was back to league business and a great win over Aughawillan in Kiltubrid park sealed our year for us.

• Intermediates:

• Our intermediate team may have been a small bit out of their depth in Division 2 but that didn't stop us claiming 2 league points up in Manorhamilton against the also newly promoted home team in the first game of the year.  After that we had some losses to the clubs first team but we did perform well against Cloone now a Senior team and against Aughnasheelin and then in the best game of the year we shared the spoils with Carrick who are the Intermediate Champions but it was too late to save us from relegation to Div 3 and that is where we will be playing out of in 2001.

• Underage:

• Pride of the place in our underage setup goes to our gallant Minor team who contested an almighty game of football with Gortletteragh in the Minor B Championship Final only to lose out by a few points in the end.  indeed a lot of the damage against us was done by our Senior teams managers Son.  In this grade Shane Foley represented the club on the Leitrim Minor Team and also honored the club by winning Young Player of the Year.

• Our Schools team had little luck in their competitions but did contest the Shield final and their luck ran out in this game too, so on to the U12 and 14 Championships.  We came up against stronger teams in these grades but we were beginning to show some promise, promise that was to be fulfilled later in the leagues.  Our Under 14 team were operating out of Division 4, this was an eleven a side competition and we were very lucky to get to the final dropping 3 points on our way but when we did we did not look a gift horse in the mouth.  We won the game in great style at the expense of Cloone.   Our 9 a side Division 3  Under 12 team marched on to the Final of their leagues and it took two games to separate themselves and neighbours Aughnasheelin.  On the second day our neighbours squeezed us out with a more workman like performance, they well deserved their good win.  Kiltubrid have some great young talent at this level and through time are sure to make a huge impression at higher levels.   Our under 16 team contested the winter league very well getting to a play off situation with Bornacoola but there ran out of luck.  We have recently won another honor for the club with our referee Finbar Keaney been awarded Bord Na nOg Referee Of the Year. also at this time our young people are excelling at Scor.

• Ladies Football:

• Out Ladies Football team competed well in the league and Championship without much luck and we boast a number of players on the Leitrim Ladies team as well as Michael Tighe on the management team.  All in all a good years work so ye can afford yourselves a clap on ten back.  On my own behalf I would like to thank anyone and everyone who helped with these notes and especially P.J. and Ray who made my job easier and of course the Leitrim Observer.  All that remains is to wish all our patrons a very happy and peaceful Christmas time.

• Well Done TP:

• Congratulations to Fenagh Clubman T.P. McLoughlin on his windfall last Saturday night.

• Website Launch:

• Our exciting new website will be launched at a function in Cardiffs on the 30th December.  This is sure to be a highlight of the year.  Brendan Doyle has put so much great work into this exciting project.

• Sympathy:

• We offer our deepest sympathy to the Duignan family and the Bornacoola club on the death of young Thomas Duignan.  May he rest in peace.

• Well done Finbar:

• Congratulations to Finbar Keaney who has been awarded Bord Na nOg Referee of the year.  Finbar has been a competent Ref. over the last few years and this recognition is well deserved.

• Sympathy:

• The club would like to offer its sincere sympathy to Sean and Carmel Redican on the death of Carmel's brother in law Luke Began.  May he rest in peace.

• Scór:

• Well done to our Scór Question Time Team of Siobhan Kelly, Adrian Beirne and Emmet Mahon who won through to the next round and to all our participants in Scór and to their Organisers: Mrs. White, Christina McGourty and Mrs. Doherty.

• Club Draw:

• The November Draw was held in Cardiff's on Saturday Night with the following winners - £100 Lea McNabola,  £10 each Connie Guckian, Karl Scollan and Liz Bohan.  We thank all premises for accommodating the sale of lines and everyone who continues to support.  Next draw is scheduled to take place in Lynches, Kilclare on weekend Dec 30th/31st.

Monday 27th November, 2000

• Club meeting:

• There will be an important club meeting this Saturday night the 2nd of December in Cardiff's Drumcong at 9.30 pm for all club members.

• Birthday Greetings:

• Happy Birthday to Mary Ellen McGirl and Noel Gill who were celebrating their birthdays last weekend.

• Scór Nua:

• Well done to the young people from the parish who participated in Scór last weekend  in Drumkeeran, by all accounts they did the club proud.  Our solo singers were David Evans, & Emmet Mahon, Instrumental Music were Orla McGourty, Lisa McWeeney, Sinead Tighe and Tara Evans.  In question time we had two teams, Team A was Siobhan Kelly, Meabh White and Clare Judge, also doing so well at recitations was Adrian Beirne.  These youngsters are in action again at Scór next Friday night at 8 O'clock in Aughavas.  The club would like to thank Christina Mc Gourty, Mrs. White and Mrs. Doherty for all their hard work in preparing the children for the Scór.

• Leitrim V London:

• A good end of year result for Joe Reynolds and his charges as the Leitrim team overshadowed the visitors on Sunday last.

Monday 20th November, 2000 

• Well Done Des:

• Congratulations to club man Des Foley who was voted Leitrim Person of the Year last weekend, he succeeds another Kiltubrid man  Sean Scollan, Sean as you know has been awarded Irelands Young Person of the Year.  Well done to both of you, Kiltubrid GAA is proud of you.

• Scór:

• Next Saturday Night the 25th of November Kiltubrids youngsters will take part in Scór, they will compete in the following acts:  Ballad, Recitation, Musical Group, Solo Singing and Question Time.  Many thanks to Christina McGourty and Angela White for their time in preparing the Children.  It takes place in Drumkeeran on Saturday night at 8 O'clock.

• Christmas Diary:

• First Sunday after Punchestown: 

• A great weekend was had by all who made the journey to Kildare for the long awaited and debated club outing.

• Youth Mass:

• Saturday two weeks the 9th December is our parish youth Mass date.  The mass is a t 8pm and will be celebrated by Fr. Baxter.   All young people are invited to keep this special mass in their plans.

Monday 13th November, 2000 

• Young Irish Person Of The Year:

• Congratulations to local hero Sean Scollan who was chosen as Young Irish Person of the Year at the National Rehab Awards in the Burlington Hotel on Monday night.

• All of us in the club and the parish were delighted to see the award being presented on live TV to Sean.  Well done Sean and may your courage and cheerfulness help other people in difficulty to overcome any unwell in their lives.

• Congratulations:

• Congratulations to Senior Team wing back Emmet Lee of Aughacashel who was recently taken up a position of Electronic Engineer with Nortel Networks based in Galway.

• Emer Well Done:

• Well done to Kiltubrid Ladies player Emer Horan of Loughconway who has recently been staring for Sligo IT.  Their ladies team recently beat Galway Mayo IT.  Emer plays full back for Sligo.

• Weekend Away:

• Will all those club people traveling to Kildare on Friday evening meet at the Town House Hotel in Naas between 8pm and 8.30pm and those traveling on Saturday are to meet a the same place between 6.30pm and 7pm.  We wish every one a safe and enjoyable weekend.

• People of the Year:

• Clubman Des Foley gets rightful recognition last week, he was the recipient of one of the awards for Leitrim People of the Year, Dessies contribution to his local community was well stated in last weeks observer, but he and indeed his good lady wife Kathleen contribute greatly to this club and we are most thankful for that.

• Butcher Boy:

• We wish Karl Scollan and his father Ollie every success in their new shop in Drumshanbo.  We all know where to get the turkey fir Christmas now.

• Banking for Darren:

• Darren Regan of Mullaghboy has joined the staff of Allied Irish Bank in Dublin.  Darren is a former underage club player with Kiltubrid.  Congratulations Darren.

• Hard Luck:

• Unlucky Aughavas lost to Corofin of Galway in the AIB Connacht club football Championship semifinal in Carrick last Sunday by a margin of 2 points.  They played bravely and proved themselves worthy Leitrim Ambassadors.  It proved a hard luck story for Joe Reynolds's Leitrim last Sunday, they lost to Limerick in the league.

• October Club Draw:

• Winners were £100 Bernie Doran, £10 each Gabriel Curran, Tone Reynolds and Dermot Heeran.  We thank McMurphys Mountain tavern for hosting the draw which took place last Sunday night.  All outstanding monies now overdue to the treasurer please.  Again thanks to all who entered the draw.

• Hurling:

• Well done to local lads Gerry Gilmartin, John Paul O'Donoghue and Gerry Winters who gave the Gortletteragh lads a puck out to victory last weekend.  A very versatile trio indeed.

Monday 6 November, 2000 

• Welcome Home:

• We would like to welcome home John Joe and Brigid Redican from their month long holiday in America.  We hope all the folks state side are all very well.  I bet ye really missed the Irish weather.

• Paralympic Hero's:

• Congratulations to the 39 Athletes who took part in the Paralympic games for Ireland, every one of them are sporting heroes and are great examples to our young sports people.  Shame on those people saying and writing unkind things about them.

• Active Winter:

• Now that all our football is over for the year, and unusually early for us this year.  It would be a pity if lads piled on the pounds and let them selves go to seed.  There are lots of activities one can do for the winter although I would recommend an indoor one, as for me, I'm going to write a book and reveal how I was never eligible to play for Kiltubrid !

• Feile Under 13:

• Kiltubrid Under 13 team have pulled out of this competition, we are sorry to inconvience any one, but we have a very young panel and with every second fixture getting postponed due to water logged pitches, we've decided to put it to sleep for the year.  At this point we would like to thank every one who helped or sponsored our young teams during the year.

• Good Luck:

• We wish Aughavas good luck on Sunday in their big game against Corofin and Leitrim in the league game against Limerick.

• Big Bird:

• Congrats to Darren Gilmartin who took the honors on 1st November when he had the longest Pheasant of all the local hunters who braved the elements on day one of the hunting season.

• Club Weekend Away:

• The club will be having their Annual Weekend away on the 17th and 18th of November, anyone wishing to go will want to have their names with Club Secretary Adrian Lee by this weekend the 3rd of November.  Accompanying that name will have to be a £20 deposit on accommodation please.

• Scór:

• Is there anyone in the locality interested in getting involved in Scór or maybe someone has some good ideas, please let some club officer know.

• Money:

• Anyone with outstanding training fund money, Edmund would like to get his hands on it.  Remember ever little helps.

• Game Off:

• Last weekend our Under 13's  game was called off due to the pitch being waterlogged.  I'm not sure when this competition will be finished now.

• Red Return's:

• Nice to see Fergal Reynolds return to the Leitrim colors last Sunday, he joined his brother Dermot in the Leitrim defense in the second half in what was a workman like Leitrim win against Antrim.

• Ladies Shield Play Off:

• Braving the wintery conditions our Senior Ladies traveled to Annaduff to play the home side for the Shield.  Annaduff proved too strong and focused as our Ladies were defending for long stretches of the game.  We congratulate Annaduff on their achievement and thank the very small band of supporters from both sides for attending.

• Race Meeting:

• Staying with sport we look forward to a night at the races on this Saturday night in McKeons of Kesh.  Proceeds to St. Bridged Church restoration fund.  First race is at 9pm and a great nights craic is guaranteed.

Monday 24th October, 2000  

• Sympathy:

• The club would like to sympathise with our assistant treasurer Kevin Nealon on the death of his father Patrick Nealon of Drumadykey, Drumcong.  Patrick had a keen interest in GAA and indeed was a fine player with Aughnasheelin in his day.  May his soul rest in peace.

• Kiltubrid GAA would also like to offer its sympathy to Lilly Carroll of Carrickport on the recent death of her Aunt Mrs. Killoran from Ballyfarnon.  May she rest in peace.

• Club Meeting:

• The club will hold an important meeting next Saturday night 28th October in Cardiff's, Drumcong at 9.30pm.  On the agenda of this meeting will be the up the upcoming weekend away which will probably be the 10th & 11th of November, anyway we will have to know details at this meeting, location etc.,

• Seniors Lose:

• Carrigallen were our masters last Sunday in the Senior League in Kiltubrid .  It was both teams last game of the year.  Kiltubrid were approaching the game with 6 points in the bag and safe in a mid table position.  Carrigallen on the other hand had two points less and were not as sure of their future status.  With this in mind they took the game to Kiltubrid and made light of the bad conditions for football.  At the end of a keenly contested game Carrigallen were ahead by 3 points.

• At this stage the club would like to offer this sincere thanks to our team manager Mickey Dorrigan for all his great work through out this historic year and of course no effort was spared either by Tony Redican.  We would also like to commiserate with Mickey on Gortletteraghs defeat on Sunday.  But we also must congratulate the team that knocked us out of the Championship, Aughavas on their fine victory.

• Underage:

• Out under 13 game last Saturday was cancelled due to Mrs. Gallogly's death in Aughavas (May she rest in peace).  But the good news is lads training continues every Monday and Wednesday evening.  Congratulations to all our young Boys and Girls who are doing so well in the BLOE Cross Country Competitions lately.

• Sports Complex:

• Any one interested in doing a bit of light training or maybe dare I say it a game of Soccer in Carrick Sports Complex over the Winter months, give your name to myself or Gerry Winters, we must have numbers before the middle of November.

Monday 16th October, 2000

• Congratulations:

• Congratulations and best wishes to club stalwarts Seamus and Helen Tighe of Drumhibrid, Drumcong on the birth of their baby boy James last week.

• Sympathy:

• The club would like to extend its sincere sympathy to the McGovern Families of Corderry Peyton and Gortnagullion on the recent deaths of David and Annie McGovern.  May they rest in peace.

• Underage:

• Well done to young club players Shane Whitloe, David McCormack and Mark McCormack who recently were doing well in the Under 14 School of Excellence.

• Last Saturday we were due to play Cloone in the first round of the Under 14 Feile Competition, but Cloone could not field a team on this occasion, so Kiltubrid were awarded the game.  This special competition had some revised rules like one hop / one solo, 15 minute per half.  It is also a 15 player a side game so we will need our full complement of players out training every Monday and Wednesday at 7 O'clock sharp.

• County Final:

• Good luck to Gortletteragh and Aughavas next Sunday in the County Final.

• Get Well Wishes:

• To Cormac McGill who is hospitalised at the moment.  All your friends in Kiltubrid wish you a speedy recovery to full health.

• Compromise Rules:

• Many Kiltubrid faces in Croke Park on Sunday to see the tougher side of football as the Aussies took care of the Paddies in style.  A lot of lessons can be learned from their high catching, long and direct kicking, etc.

Monday 9th October, 2000

• Under 12 Final:

• Last Friday evening Kiltubrid and Aughnasheelin played out a dramatic Divisional 4 final replay in Fenagh.  It was a great game of football even surpassing the thrilling encounter of a week before.  A very hungry Aughnasheelin team inspired by Gavin Sammon did a lot of Scoring in the first half and the Kiltubrid lads seemed a little shell shocked by there commitment and skill, the exception being Ronan Geoghegan.  Ronan's tussle with Fergal Earley worth seeing.  The Aughnasheelin lads had built up a lead of 1-6 to 0-4 points at half time.  Kiltubrid had a lot to do in the second half and they certainly warmed to the task.  Ronan continued where he left off and was now getting help from Gavin Kelly and Richard Shanley.  Michael McGirl and Emmet Mahon got on top in midfield and Dermot and Kielan McKeon began to make in roads in to the Aughnasheelin defense.  But the Aughnasheelin lads had their own heroes, and try as they might Kiltubrid could not break down the tenacious Aughnasheelin defense.  Michael McGirl, Dermot and Kielan McKeon did Score 3 points during this half, but Aughnasheelin did come up the field twice in this half to Score two vital points.  But eh Kiltubrid lads refused to throw in the towel and with time almost up they got what they were looking for,  Kielan McKeon delightfully finished a Dermot McKeon pass to the net to leave the minimum between them,  But on the kick out the final whistle went and Aughnasheelin were worthy winners.  We would like to congratulate our neighbors on this fine victory.  The Kiltubrid Under 12 panel was N. Slevin, R. Shanley, G. Kelly, R. Geoghegan, M. McGirl, D. McKeon, E. Mahon, K McKeon, K. Murray, A. Beirne, G. Bracken, M. Geoghegan, D. Keaney, D. McGirl and M. McWeeney.

• Congratulations:

• Congratulations to Des and Kathleen Foley and Michael and Mary Rose Geoghegan who celebrated their wedding anniversaries last week.

• Seniors Lose:

• Last Sunday a very depleted Kiltubrid Senior Team lost to Glencar/Manor in the Senior league.  But fair play to Gerry Winters and Gerry Gilmartin who rushed back from holidays to play in this game.

Monday 2nd October, 2000

• Sympathy:

• The club would like to offer its sincere sympathy to the Dolan families of Fenagh and Kiltubrid on the tragic death of young Mathew Dolan.  May he rest in peace.

• Congratulations:

• Well done to our Senior Team Goalie Noel Gill who has secured a position of safety officer in P.J. Walls City West Company in Dublin.  Noel was educated in Carrick's Community School and Sligo RTC.  He is son of Bridie and the late P.J. Gill, Kilclare.

• Blue Day:

• Out near neighbors Eslin and Allen Gaels were left singing the blues last Sunday.  Both the sky blues made their exits from their respective championships.  I believe Leitrim manager Joe Reynolds was going for his ninth championship medal with Eslin in the Junior B final, well there is always next year lads.

• Good Luck Seamus:

• Kiltubrid would like to congratulate Seamus Quinn on his selection to the Irish Compromise Rules Team and of course to wish him lots of luck against the Ozzies.  The Leitrim Captain had an injury scare last Sunday while playing for Gortletteragh against Allen Gaels.

• All Ireland Tickets:

• The club have secured 3 tickets for the replay All Ireland Final and they will be drawn for in the usual way.

• Under 12 Final:

• Last Saturday our under 12 team played out a thrilling draw with Aughnasheelin in the Final of the Division 4 league.  No definite date yet for the replay.

• Website:

• All Ireland Champs:

• Mayo (Kiltubrid Look-alikes) are ladies All Ireland Champs for the second year in a row.  Many of these girls are familiar faces to Kiltubrids Ladies as they hosted our team some years ago.  It's great to see Ladies football receiving the recognition it so deserves.  No doubt Leitrim Ladies too can be title holders in the near future.

• Sunshine Kids:

• Training numbers took a bit of a dip this week as a number of our Senior team panel flew to sunnier climates for a well earned break.

• To Highbury and Back:

• A great weekend was had by Brian, Brendan and Eoin who traveled for the Arsenal V Man. Utd game in Highbury on Sunday last.

• Club Draw (Sept):

• Held in Foleys, Kesh on Sunday 1st Oct. Winners -£100 Nollaig Doyle,  £10 each - Gerry Gilmartin, Michael Tighe and Marie Lee.

Monday 25th September, 2000

• Intermediate:

• Last Saturday evening our intermediate team played their last game of the year against St. Mary's in Park Lane in Carrick.  Kiltubrid were already heading for Division 3 before this game and Carrick had just won the GWP Intermediate Championship in which they dished out a very heavy beating to this Kiltubrid team.  But Kiltubrid had a stronger team out on this occasion and pushed St. Mary's all the way and engineered a great goal just at the death to gain what would have been a deserved win.  But St. Mary's went up the field from the kick out and kicked the equalizer.  Kiltubrid would like to congratulate St. Mars's and their manager Sean Duignan on their fine achievements this year.  For our part we would like to thank our manager Chris Carroll and selector Tony Redican, both of whom did a great job with this team some times under difficult conditions.

• Ladies Lose:

• Our Ladies team had no luck either last Sunday in a league game against Annaduff.  In the first half Kiltubrid gave as good as they got, the feature a good Kathy Butler goal.  She had swapped roles with Catriona Bohan, with Catriona in goal, Kathy's strike, Catriona would have been proud of in her hay day.  But in the second half Annaduff ran out deserved winners.  Doing their best for Kiltubrid were C. Bohan, L. Mulvey, S. Carroll, G. Carroll, C. Mulvey, E. Horan, L. Gallagher, M. Burke, N. Lee, A. Guckian, M. McKeon, E. Cullen, K. Butler, D. Murray, C. Scollan.

• Sheemore Gaels:

• No this is not about the twenty sixth anniversary of this famous team.  Out Under 16 Girls have joined with Carrick this year for the Under Sixteen's Ladies league.  I'm not so sure how well they are doing but I'm sure Kiltubrids Emer Kelly, Lorraine Mulvey, Cathy Scollan, Emma Burke, Clare Mulvey, Siobhan Carroll, Sandra Earley and Louise Gallagher are doing their best.  By the way can anyone name all the Kiltubrid mew who were on the Sheemore Gaels team in 1974.

• Underage:

• Our U16 team bowed out of the nine-a-side league last Saturday in Fenagh.  A much stronger Bornacoola team were worthy winners on the day and nothing went right for Michael Geoghegan's lads.  I know all the Under 16 panel would like to thank Michael and Michael McGirl for all their work over the last few weeks.

• Under 12 Final:

• Next Saturday we play Aughnasheelin in the U12 nine-a-side league final, this will be a tough one for us because I believe the teams are very evenly matched. Again support would be a great help for these youngsters.

• Under 12:

• Our Under 12 team played away to Glenfarne last Friday in the special league.  Kiltubrid seemed a little 'jet lagged' in the first half from the drive down and at the 'short' whistle were six points in arrears.  After half time the Kiltubrid boys got more into the game with every player upping their performance , and as the 'long' whistle approached found themselves in a slender lead.  In the fading light the home team got a close in free to draw the game.  In the end it was a fair result.  Our last game of this campaign is a at home to Cloone this evening Wednesday 20th.  On Friday last Neil Slevin kept a safe goal,  backs Richard Shanley and Ronan Geoghegan were very good with Gavin Kelly giving good assistance.  Michael McGirl and Emmet Mahon tore in to the game in the second half around the middle of the field.  Dermot McKeon and Keelan McKeon were great in the forwards and got good help from Kieran Murray and sub. Michael Geoghegan.  Adrian Beirne, Daniel McGirl, Bernard Bracken and Domininc Keaney made up the rest of our panel  on Friday last.

• Sponsor a Ball:

• Would anyone in the club like to sponsor a football for our underage team's,  we have two underage teams still involved in Competition this year, and we are suddenly short on leather.  Believe me these lads are worth buying for.

• Under 16's win:

• Our Under 16's team had a good win over Glenfarne in the league last Saturday in Kiltubrid park.  A stronger Kiltubrid nine always held the upper hand in this game and could have won by more with the chances they had.  Glenfarne did miss a second half penalty and moments later Kiltubrid's Gearoid Foley rifled in a great goal to put the issue beyond any doubt.  Patrick McKeon was very sound in Goals.  In defense Shane Gilmartin was the best player on the field, but Paul McGirl and Ryan McLoughlin gave him great help.  Eamon Geoghegan's work rate in Midfield was tremendous with captain David McGirl also to the fore.  Gearoid Foley, David McCormack, Conor Shanley and later sub Shane Whitlow were lively in the attack, other lads standing by were Terence McLoughlin, Brian Tighe, Michael McKiernan and Eoin Meehan.  This win keeps our hopes alive in this competition with 2 other teams.

• Hill walking Festival:

• Congrats and well done to all involved in the very successful weekend hill walking festival in Upper and Lower Kiltubrid.  A growing sport with all the advantages of outdoor healthy exercise not to mention the opportunity to explore the panoramic views of our countryside.

• County Finals:

• Congratulations to Gortletteragh and St. Mary's who won the Junior A and Intermediate finals respectively.  The minor teams must meet again to decide the winner.  Kiltubrid were well represented by the cool man in black Finbar Keaney patrolling the sideline and our famous pipe band providing the intervals and prematch entertainment to the supporters of the teams.

• Wedding:

• Congratulations to club man Vincent Lee of Aughacashel and pipe band member Patricia Horan of Loughconway who were married in Drumcong last Saturday.  We wish the happy couple many, many years of health and happiness.

• Lynch Cup:

• Last Sunday two teams from the club played for the Padraig Lynch Cup.  There were a few groggy heads about after Vincent and Patricia's  wedding and indeed I saw a groggy foot or two with lads bumping into each other and missing easy balls, all the order of the day.  Despite all this the game was well contested and refereed by Kiltubrid's Top Ref. Finbar Keaney.  At the end of the game Karl Collin's team had over come Conor Doherty's outfit to ensure the cup would not be going home to Kilclare.  Padraig presented the cup to Karl  after the match  and later refreshments were enjoyed in the Sheemore Lounge.  We would like to thank Padraig and Christina very much for their hospitality.

Monday 4th September, 2000

• Underage:

• A park committee has been set up with a view to undertaking extensive repairs to our dressing rooms and car park, and also to develop a juvenile playing pitch at Kiltubrid park.  Michael  J. McKiernan and Tony Redican are joint chairmen, Edmund Doyle and Francie Foley are joint treasurer's and Adrian Lee is secretary.  Other committee members include Ray Harris, P.J. Meehan, Tom P. Carroll, Pat McWeeney and any interested club members.

• Under 14's Win:

• Our Under 14 team won Division III of the Special League last Wednesday 30th of August in Fenagh.  Our opposition was Cloone, who had only dropped one point (that to Kiltubrid) on the way to the final.  Cloone Scored a great point from the throw in, but from that 'point' on Kiltubrid got on top and stayed there until the end clocking up 4-08 to Cloones 1-05.  After the game a delighted David McCormack accepted the cup from Bord Na nOg official Gerry McGovern.  The game was a very sporting one and well contested by a gallant Cloone team, and very well refereed by Mohills Kieran Moran.  Many thanks from Michael McGirl and myself to every one who helped out with this panel over the year, also thanks to everyone at Foleys in Kesh for the Chips and Burgers after the game, and finally to our supporters that turned out on Wednesday evening.  The panel was as follows M. • Players Meeting:

• There will be a players meeting on Friday night, 8th Sept. in Cardiff's Drumcong and 9pm.  It is vital that all players attend this important meeting.

• Lynch Cup:

• Sunday next at 1pm two teams from the club will play for the Padraig Lynch cup.  Padraig of course was a great player for Kiltubrid, and a star back in 1981 when we first won our way to Senior football.

• Under 12:

• The Under 12 Special League starts on Wed. Sept 6th.  Kiltubrid plays out of Division Four in the Company of Cloone, Glenfarne, Leitrim Gaels, and Aughnasheelin.  We play the 6th this evening against Leitrim Gaels and Friday the 8th against Aughnasheelin.

• Underage:

• Last Sunday evening in Annaduff, Kiltubrid minor team took  on a Gortletteragh Minor team that was seeking three in a row Minor B Championships.  Both teams had a very impressive run to the final.  Kiltubrid had a very young team, all bar captain James Gill are underage again next year.  Gortletteraghs physically stronger team had four Leitrim Minors on board against our one.

• That was the backdrop to this final but what unfolded in ideal conditions in Annaduff last Sunday evening was an absolutely enthralling match packed with all the skills in the game.  Full of honest endeavor and great commitment from two class teams there were stars on both sides but it would not be fair to mention one more than another on our panel.  Although for Gortletteragh Stephen Dorrigan, the son of our Senior team's manager did a lot of the Scoring.  The game was played in such a sporting manner and well refereed by Pat Faughnan, we would like to congratulate Gortletteragh on their three in a row.  To Padraig Kelly, who had brought on this fine team from Under 12, we say a great big thank you from the club and congratulate him for what he had done with this panel of players.  Noel Gill on this occasion was his able assistant, also a big thank you to Lucy Kelly, Tom Joe McKiernan and everyone else who helped us along our way.  Kiltubrid panel was S. • Our under 16 team put up a great performance last week against Bornacoola and was beaten by two points, this was a much improved performance than the week before against Eslin.  Keep up the good work lads.

• Under 14's:

• Kiltubrid Under 14's play the Divisional Final this evening Wednesday 30th August in Fenagh at 7pm.  The game is against Cloone and some support would be welcome.

• Ladies Championship:

• Our Senior Ladies tam came up against a stronger and vastly more experienced Aughawillan team last Sunday in the Championship.  The Aughawillan girls were worthy winners but Kathy Butler, Emer Horan, Linda Tighe, Naomi Lee, Mirelda McKeon and Miranda Burke tried so hard for Kiltubrid.  Also some of the younger girls making their Championship debut acquitted themselves very well.

• Thank You:

• Padraig Kelly and Noel Gill would like to thank Brian and Ann Meehan also Des and Kathleen Foley for their after match refreshments provided for the minor team/panel during the championship.  Padraig and Noel wish to thank the club for their support and provision of the after match meals after the Final on Sunday evening last.  To the supporters we say thanks a million for turning out in such numbers.

• Underage:

• Last Monday week our Minor team had a workman like win over Bornacoola in the Divisional Final at Fenagh, and so qualified for the Minor B Championship Semifinal against Melvin Gaels which was played last Monday.  Kiltubrid played well in this match without ever hitting the high notes, no doubt Pauric Kelly and Noel Gill will be working a bit on that ancient art of point kicking with the lads if they are to progress.  The minor panel is  S Guckian, D McGirl, B McKiernan,  A Bohan, A Kelly, N Foley, J Gill, S Foley, M Earley, B Meehan, A McKiernan, G Foley, K Farrell, S Gilmartin, B Tighe, E Meehan.

• Our Under 14 team have qualified for the Div III league final against Cloone on the back of a good win over Gortletteragh last week.  Also last Saturday we emerged winners of the Leitrim Gaels U14 football tournament.  We beat the host team in the final and afterwards team captain David McCormack was presented with a lovely cup and the full panel with magnificent medals.  At this point the Kiltubrid Under 14 panel would like to thank Leitrim Gaels for inviting us in to this tournament, to thank John Casey for his excellent job in refereeing that game and presentation afterwards, to Imelda, Rosaleen and all the ladies for the refreshments.  The best of luck to Leitrim Gaels underage and to their Juniors in the next round of the Championship.   The Under 14 panel is M McCormack, R McLoughlin, D McWeeney, M McGirl, A McGovern, P McGirl, D McCormack, D McKeon, S Whitlow, E Mahon, P Whitlow, K McKeon, P Evans, J Murray, C Scollan, D McGirl.

• Our Senior team had a very valuable win over Aughawillan in the Masonite Senior league last Saturday in Kiltubrid park.  The game was nip and tuck until the last ten minutes, but when Brian Foley came into the game as a substitute he won three vital frees.  But more importantly freed up Dara McKiernan who Scored two goals. Well done to all concerned.

• Ladies:

• Our ladies minors were beat by Bornacoola last week,  the panel was L Mulvey, A Guckian, G Carroll, C Mulvey, C Scollan, S Carroll, E Horan, N Lee, L Gallagher, E Burke, E Cullen, C Gilmartin, S Earley, P McGovern.

• Sympathy:

• Senior Championship:

• Kiltubrid lost to amore "Street Wise" Aughavas team last Sunday in the Senior Championship, and so ended our interests in this Championship Campaigns.  It was a game Kiltubrid could have won, ok at least drawn.  But in the end we would have no complaints and we wish Aughavas good luck in the Quarter final. 

• Twenty Man Game:

• This new rule of the use of five Subs is a great idea and indeed Kiltubrids line was fully extended on Sunday.  The loss of John Paul Earley in the game, after he had kicked an excellent 45, had an unsettling effect.  But Conor Doherty replaced him and Scored two great points.  Brian Foley came on for the injured Richard Mahon and Scored a point,  Ray Harris came on late in the game and Scored brilliant goal that nearly drew the game for us.  All in all its been a great Championship adventure for Kiltubrid and the spirit of the nineteen Kiltubrid men last Sunday will stand them in good stead for the future.  No one showed more heart and spirit last Sunday then Michael Scollan.

• Parish Mini Festival:

• Good luck to the festival which starts next Sunday night and ends the following Saturday.

• Collection:

• Kiltubrid GAA would like to sincerely thank everyone who contributed to our church gate collection at both masses last Sunday.

• Underage:

• Last week our Under 14 team lost to Drumreilly.  Our last game is this week against Gortletteragh in Kiltubrid at 7pm Wednesday the 16th.  Mean while our minor's were in the Divisional final last Monday , a word on this game next week.

• Masters:

• Good luck to Seamus and company in Leitrims over 40's big game this week.

• Ladies Lose:

• Tough luck for Linda Tighe, Naomi Lee, Emer Horan, Kathy Butler and Michael Tighe who were all part of Leitrim Ladies setup last Sunday.  Well done to Siobhan Kelly and Tara Evans who were playing for Leitrim Under 12's.

• Senior League:

• It could be back to the bread and butter of league points this weekend  with 2 of them up for grabs  against Aughawillan.  No doubt there will be a few walking wounded but good support again is important and we have to win at least another game or two before we are safe.

• Parish Pilgrimage next Sunday:

• After all the sport has concluded for the week, all young people are encouraged to partake in our Parish Pilgrimage to the Mass Rock on Sliabh-An-Iarann overlooking Rantogue, and the entire visible countryside.

• Joe Reynolds men weren't beaten last Sunday for lack of effort that's for sure, but our own club man Des Foley put a bit of effort in himself, in to the Taxi that is Dessie.  I even saw the new president of the GAA, Sean MacCague hitching a lift in it around the Hyde last Sunday.

• Club Draw:

• Will take place next Sunday night in Lynches.

• Senior Challenge:

• We had a good workout with St. Michaels, Cootehall on our pitch on Saturday evening.  We thank the lads from Roscommon for once again coming to our aid with a good challenge game.  Training continues as usual.  No need to remind all players of the necessity to come to training as we are in a vital game against Aughavas on Saturday week.

• Sympathy:

• Sincere sympathy is extended from the club to the Mulvihill family,  Kilclare on the death of John James recently.  May he rest in peace.

• Gary's 21st:

• Congratulations to Gary Burke of Aughacashel, son of John and Veronica on reaching the ripe old age of 21.  Apparently the party is still going on.

• Shame on those players who failed to turn up last Saturday evening fro our Intermediate Championship game in Ballinaglera, we had to go through the embarrassment of conceding a Championship game without even kicking a ball, the first time in our Clubs proud history.  We humbly apologise to the Drumkeeran club, to the County Board, to the referee and officials, to the Drumkeeran supporters and the Ballinaglera lads.

• Tommy's Home:

• Welcome home to Tommy and Donna Flynn and Kids from New York, we wish them health and happiness in their new home.  Tommy was a club stalwart before he went to the States and I'm sure it win't be long until he involved himself again in the Club.

• Our Minor championship and Under 14 league has started this week - report next week.  Attendances at Under 14 and Under 12 training could be better.  Remember Monday's and Fridays @ 7.30pm.

• Ladies:

• As far as I know a Ladies minor game last week against Aughawillan was called off.  Congratulations to the Kiltubrid girls on the Leitrim Minor team that won in the Connacht Championship last week.

• Come on Leitrim:

• Kiltubrid GAA club would like to simply wish "the best of Irish luck" to Joe, the County Board, the players and anyone that has anything to do with the setup for the big game.

• Show your colors:

• Maybe not as many flags and color about the Parish as in '94 maybe some people are waiting 'til we go to Croke Park like they do in Kerry.  But pride of the parish goes to hard working club man PJ Meehan for his effort and I'm sure if Leitrim win, that "Teddy" will climb to the top of that flag pole.

• Club draw:

• The club draw takes place this Sunday night 30th in Lynchs of Kilclare

• Senior Challenge:

• Last Sunday our Senior team played a challenge match against Bornacoola in Kiltubrid.  In what was a useful work out Kiltubrid won by a few points.  We would like to thank Des & Kathleen of Foleys, Kesh for the refreshments after the game.

• Sympathy:

• Last week saw the death of John James Mulvihill of Kilclare.  John James was a very popular hard working man in the community.  Indeed I'm sure he got great pleasure from listening to the Leitrim Roscommon game on his radio in hospital.  The club would like to sympathise with his wife and family.  May he rest in peace.

• Safe journey to our Club Chairman  - Ray Harris- as he jets out to California, USA this week on a working visit.  Ray, we'll keep a ticket for you for Croke Park after Sunday.

• Sympathy:

• Ladies Win:

• Congratulations to Leitrim Ladies football team on their great win in the Connacht Championship last Sunday, and so join their male counterparts in the Connacht final.  From our point of view Kiltubrid player Naomi Lee was outstanding in midfield, with Linda Tighe lending great support in defense.  Congratulations also to Michael Tighe and his fellow selectors.

• Under 12's:

• Our girls Under 12 team completed their campaign last week with games against Annaduff and Aughawillan, a loss and a draw was their lot.  This was a very young panel of players with most of them in their first year at football and the club is indebted to Helen Tighe for her absolute dedication to these young players .  The panel were as follows A. • Unfortunate Incident:

• At a recent Under 12 game in Kiltubrid Park there was an unfortunate act of vandalism in where one of our mentors cars was damaged.  The car in question was parked in front of the main gate and it had a persons name written on it, with a stone or a nail or keys, anyway some such object that would inflict most damage to the paint work.  The date in question was Thursday 13th and it was an Under 12 girls game against Annaduff, any information please to any club officer.

• Intermediates Hammered:

• Last Sunday evening in Drumshanbo, St. Mary's served up a severe beating to our Intermediate team.  But indeed Kiltubrid did exceptionally well to field a team at all, there were some serious defections due to a number of reasons.  Kiltubrid's first Score of the game midway through the second half raised the cheer of the evening.  It was a great point by Gerry Gilmartin, we got two more excellent Scores a point from Michael Earley and a great goal from James Gill.  Congratulations to every man on the panel, for no one let Kiltubrid down in this one.  How many championships is that Seamus Tighe has played in.

• Connacht Final Tickets:

• Tickets are now available for the big match, I am told that the will only be available for 1 week, the same format will in place as was for the Roscommon match, so get them early first come, first served.

Monday 10th July, 2000  

• Senior Win:

• You know the sweetest wins are by one point, ask Leitrim, the most heart breaking losses are by one point ask Roscommon.  Last Sunday Kiltubrid beat Mohill by such a Score line.  Mohills fine young team have had the edge on us in recent years.  Beating us last year in league and Championship games handsomely.  But when Shane Foley put over an injury time pressure free it was the first time Kiltubrid lead in the game and it was the most important time.  Mohill had a late free to snatch a draw but failed to convert.  Congratulations to Mickey and Tony, to captain John Paul who was deadly with his frees and to the full panel of players and club officers.

• Intermediate Championship:

• Next Sunday evening in Drumshanbo we play St. Mary's in the Intermediate Championship.  Our resources again will be well stretched.  We lost Conor Doherty last Sunday to the Senior Championship but I'm sure the players on duty will give of their best and nothing more can be expected of anyone.

• Ladies:

• Our under 12's and Under 14 ladies teams both lost during the week, with Under 14 girls player Lorraine Mulvey sustaining a knee injury.  So we wish her a speedy recovery, also the best of luck to Michael, Linda and Naomi in the Connacht Championship game coming up soon.

• Clash:

• There were many good honest manly clashes in our senior game last week with Mohill, but one stands out, it was accidentally between our own two men Christy Carroll and Barry Doyle.  While going for a high ball in our forward line both men clashed heads and fell to the ground.  But quick as a flash Barry jumped to his feet in possession of the ball and drove a great point over the bar for a crucial Score.  Christy needed some attention on the ground for some minutes for a facial injury, while Barry needed three stitches for the head wound after the game.  Afterwards he said that he didn't feel a thing but told Christy no to bite him there again.  Our sincere thanks to Doctor Kieran Greene and Tom Guckian of St. Mary's who helped look after our injured lads. 

• Sympathy:

• Last week I forgot to mention a Kiltubrid player who was also playing for Leitrim.  That was of course Siobhan Kelly, daughter of Padraig and Lucy Kelly, who was playing in the Cumann na mBunscoil exhibition game.  Well done Siobhan.

• Leitrim Underdogs Bite Back:

• What can I say about Leitrims unbelievable second half performances last Sunday that hasn't been said already, and I mean the Minors as well as the Seniors.  Shane Foley played center-half back for the Minors who had their own barn storming second half and just failed where Joe Reynolds men succeeded.  Congratulations to the heart lifting performances all round.

• Under 12:

• Last Monday week Kiltubrid Under 12's had their last match of the Championship in Kiltubrid Park against Drumreilly.  The game was an evenly contested affair with Drumreilly winning on a Score of 3-9 to 2-10 and so Drumreilly go on to the final against Carrigallen.  Just a reminder to all Under 14 and Under 12's that training continues in the park with Tom Mahon, Brendan Meehan and David McGirl.

• Championship:

• Next Sunday is our big day in the Senior Championship when we play Mohill in Cloone.  This really is our make or break game in the round robin series and will be such a tough prospect.  Again we would like to call on all our supporters to come out in numbers on Sunday and support the team.

Monday 26th June, 2000  

• Intermediate Championship:

  • A warm welcome home to Brian and Carrie who spent the last three months in Italy.  I'm sure a fit and tanned looking Foley won't be long getting back into the swing of things.

• Ibiza Boys:

• No wonder I saw Mickey Dorrigan pulling out some of his hair last week, just as one player returns to the fold several more jetted off to Ibiza, not to worry Mickey, the boys are just doing some beach training under different climatic conditions.

• Leitrim Ladies:

• Heartiest congratulatulations to Leitrim Ladies on their wonderful win in the Div. III league final against Galway last Sunday.  Kiltubrid were represented by Naomi Lee who gave great support to wonder woman Maeve Quinn in midfield and Scored a great point.  The brave Linda Tighe, despite serious injury, came in to the game in defense in the second half and also Kathy Butler on the subs.  Of course Michael Tighe forms the management team with Pat Clancy and Noel Crossan.

• Good luck to Joe Reynolds and his troops on Sunday in Hyde Park as they set about continuing this years championship trend of underdog success.  No doubt Roscommon are the match favorites but I'm sure Joe will have other ideas.

• Kilnagross N.S. Champs:

• Congrats to neighbors up the road - Kilnagross National School on their first football success recently.  It's great to see teams making an breakthrough for the first time. Well done to all.

• Tory Island Invasion:

• The people of Tory Island off the coast of Donegal were surprised by the he arrival of a touring party of socialisers from Keshcarrigan last weekend.  Having soaked up the island atmosphere the group have returned safe and sound to their base.

• Sympathy:

• The club would like to offer our sincere sympathy to our parish priest Fr. Rigney on the death of his father recently,   may he rest in peace.

• Underage:

• Last week we had a good win over Aughnasheelin in the Under 12 Championship.  The Score was 4-11 to 2-0. Kiltubrid was well served by goalie Neil Slevin, Backs:  Gavin Kelly, Daniel McGirl, Gerard Bracken, Richard Shanley, Ronan Geoghegan, Dominic Keaney, Midfielders : Michael Mc Girl, and Dermot McKeon. While ace forwards were:  Siobhan Kelly, Emmett Mahon, Kieran Murray, Adrian Beirne, Keelan McKeon and Michael Geoghegan.  Last week our U12 Girls team started their campaign with a win over Fenagh.

• Special League:

• The Under 14's league is about to get a shake up.  It is proposed to have an eleven a side competition in our Division (Div 3) and Kiltubrid will be in the company of Drumreilly, Bornacoola, Cloone and Gortletteragh.  Competitions start on July 19th so it will be important for all players to spend a bit of time down in the park.  Training is Friday and Monday evenings.

• Congratulations:

• to Jim and Mary Tighe of Aughaslane who last weekend celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary.  Jim and Mary Bridget of Course are staunch Kiltubrid supporters.  Jim was a great player in his day and hardly ever misses a game.  Indeed he still looks  fit enough to play.  We wish them both many more happy years together.

• Intermediate Championship:

  • Last Saturday evening our second team played Manorhamilton in the Intermediate Championship in sweltering heat in Pairc Sean in Carrick.  Kiltubrid resources were well stretched with some players missing but we still had four subs. for the game.  Our team was a mix of very young players in their first championship at adult level together with some seasoned campaigners.  Kiltubrid and Manor may be two of the poorest teams in the intermediate grade but that did not stop both teams contesting the game with championship fervor.  Kiltubrid were slow to start and it took some inspirational play by Seamus Tighe and Conor Doherty to get our only Score in the first half.

  • In the second half Kiltubrid came more to life and started the half with a great Gerry Gilmartin point but after this we had a period of dominance but too many wides.  Conor Doherty did add three points to close the gap to a point, then Gerry Gilmartin had the crossbar deny him a certain goal from a great overhead flick and so with it went our chance of victory.  Michael Early got a point but Manorhamilton ran out winners on a Score of 10 points to 6.

• Access to Field:

• Due to a County Board directive, at all games in our field, access to the playing area and the dressing rooms  will be denied to everybody accept the panel of players, team management and club officers.  This club intend to have a policy where players and management will be handed tickets or passes in order to gain entry to the playing area.  This will be the way at all future games in Kiltubrid Park including all underage games.  The club do not intend to upset any of our patrons or sponsors for without them we would simply have no club.  We sincerely thank them for all their help and support and are looking forward to everyone's co-operation in this matter.

• Sympathy:

• Under 12's:

• Our Under 12 team played their second game of the league last Wednesday away to Aughavas.  Unfortunately defeat was once again our lot on a Score of 4-18 to 4-05.  The panel were N. Slevin, G. McGovern.   We would like to thank Tommy Mahon for helping out at Under 12 training during the week.

Monday 12th June, 2000

• Senior Championship:

  • Last Saturday our newly promoted Senior team took on County Champions Manorhamilton in Carrick.  This was a game of two very different halves from a Kiltubrid point of view.  The first half saw a hesitant Kiltubrid trailing by 1-8 to 1-1 at the break, with the goal from Nick O'Donoghue and the point from Shane Foley.  For the second half a different Kiltubrid came out and literally tore into a shell shocked Manor, the backs tightened up, Chris Carroll and Karol Scollan got on top at midfield and one man in particular took the game by the scruff of the neck, that was full forward  Nick O'Donoghue  He Scored six points from play in this half to go with his goal in the first and was very unlucky with a great overhead flick that it didn't end up in the Manorhamilton net.  Nick got great help in this half from young Shane Foley who weighed in with 3 points himself.  Kiltubrid held the champions to 3 points in this half but that was just enough to give them a slender 1 point lead 1-11 to 1-10,  so disappointed was our lot in this our first game but on this display it won't be long until we have something to cheer about.

• Intermediate Championship:

• Our Division 2 team start their Campaign this weekend also against Glencar- Manorhamilton.  We lost a few players to the Senior Championship last week so it looks like some boots with cobwebs on them will have to be surfaced for this one.

• Underage:

• Our under 14 team played their last game in the Championship last Monday week in Kiltubrid park against Drumreilly.  This was a very high Scoring game.  Drumreilly 9-6 to Kiltubrids 4-13.  Kiltubrid were missing some players obviously in defense,  our stars in this game were in attack, Emmett Mahon Scored eight points and Shane Whitlow two goals also Paul McGirl a great goal.  The panel was as follow:  P McGirl (Capt.), D McCormack, A McGovern, M McCormack, L Mulvey, J Murray,  P Evans,  N Murray, S Whitlow,  D. • Intermediate Game:

  • Our Intermediate team lost to Aughnasheelin last Sunday in the Div 2 League. This was a good Kiltubrid performance, the team were well behind at half time but made a real game of it in the second half, two Nick O'Donoghue goals a great help but Aughnasheelin added a goal and a few points to run out worthy winners.

• Twenty First:  

  • Congratulations to Senior and Intermediate star Richard Mahon who celebrated his coming of age recently also to Senior corner back John McGovern who was one year older than Richard on the same week.

• Exams:

• Our teams were depleted in the last few weeks due to exams.  The club would like to wish our young people the best of luck in all their exams: 3rd Level, Leaving Cert., and Junior Cert.

• Congratulations:

• Club and Leitrim Senior Ladies footballer Naomi Lee who "Walked" away with a Connacht Schools Senior Girls championship in Tullamore recently and in so doing set a new record for the walk, time of 15 mins. 29.9 secs.  Not to be outdone her neighbor Denise Murray qualified for the All Ireland Schools Track and Field Championships,  Denise's events are the shot and discus.

• Underage:

• No luck last week for our Under 12's and Under 14's teams, both teams fell to strong Carrigallen teams.  The Under 12's Scored 1-8  against Carrigallen's 5-4.  A feature of this game was some excellent point Scoring and also a goal from Michael Geoghegan, the eight year old was making his debut in the red and green.  On Wednesday evening last our Under 12 game against Drumreilly in Kiltubrid failed to take place because the referee did not turn up. This was an unfortunate situation because both teams were togged and ready for the game particularly Drumreilly who traveled for this game.  The Under 14's lost to Carrigallen on Thursday last.  This was a heavy defeat to a well drilled Noel Lyons outfit, but a feature for us was the great form of ten year old Emmett Mahon in the forwards also a lovely chipped goal from Dermot McKeon of Rantogue.

• Over 40's:

• Congratulations to the Leitrim Masters team who continued their winning ways last week against Mayo.  Club player Seamus Tighe plays midfield on this team.

• Student Summer Scheme:

• Young People do Well:  Some of our younger club people were among the award winners at a recent achievements day in St. Felim's college, Ballinamore. Under 16 player Eamon Geoghegan won class student of the year and Junior player of the year.  Ladies player Emma Burke was 3rd year student of the year while county and club player Naomi Lee was awarded best female athlete and winner of the best design cover of the school magazine.  David McCormack Scored a goal for Carrick Community School in their losing Corn Breffine final against Carrigallen and Shane Whitlow was on the Mohill Vocational Schools team that won the Connacht Vocational Schools 7 a side Millennium Blitz.

• Schools Lose:   Our local school Drumcong lost the large schools rural shield to  Drumlease last Monday week in Drumshanbo.  The game was evenly balanced and at half time the Score was 3 points each,  Drumcong Scores coming from Emmett Mahon -two points and one from Dermot McKeon.  In the second half Drumlease  were quickly out of the blocks with a great goal from their midfield man.  Drumcong replied with points from Michael McGirl  and Jamie Murray but Drumlease sealed their win with another goal and a point.  The Drumcong panel was M. • Congratulations:   Congratulations to Tom Mahon of Drumshanbo who had a nice little windfall on Saturday night on the Fame and Fortune show.  I guess Emmett will get those new boots now Tommy !

• Seniors Win:  Our Senior team had a good win last Saturday evening over Ballinaglera in Kiltubrid park.  Kiltubrid had to field without Emmett Lee, Enda McKeon and Conor Doherty but did welcome back Barry Doyle.  Of course Ballinaglera were missing some of their own stars and also had a man sent off in the first half which did not help their cause.  This was a very good all round team performance and Kiltubrid kicked fourteen points, only two from frees, against Ballinaglera's six.

• Intermediates Lose:   Our intermediate team lost to Ballinamore in the Div 2 league last Sunday.  This was a performance in stark contrast to the Senior game of the previous day, with just about nobody playing well not much wonder that O'Heslins ran out easy winners.

• Leitrim Ladies March On:   With an eleven points to one goal and two our county ladies are through to the division three final against Galway.  This was a very good result defeating Carlow in their home grounds.  Well done to all especially to Kiltubrid reps.  Linda Tighe and Naomi Lee

• Hubie Doherty Tournament:   Both Leitrim and Fermanagh came to Cloone on Sunday evening last without some of their regulars but nevertheless provided the small attendance with plenty of entertainment.  Leitrim emerged winners by 2-9 to 1-9.  Good wishes to the Leitrim camp in their preparations for the Championship.

• Shane stars in Millennium Blitz:    Congrats to young club star Shane Whitlow who with his fellow Vocational School team-mates from Mohill won the Div. 2 Millennium Football Blitz held in Ballyhaunis, Co. Mayo last week.  The team overcame Ballina in the final to record a memorable victory. Mr. John Prenty of Connaught Council presented the winners medals after the final amid great scenes of jubilation.

• Injured:   Get well wishes to minor player Stephen Guckian of Scardaun who received an ankle injury last week in training.

• Welcome Home:  Nice to see former club and Leitrim star Joe McGirl home on holidays from New York with his family.   We wish Joe and Brona and the kids a happy stay with their families.

• Seniors Lose:   Our senior team lost to Melvin Gaels in Kinlough last Saturday evening by a margin of two points 0-11 to 1-6.  This was a game Kiltubrid could have won but maybe a share of the spoils would have been a fair result because the teams were level at full time but the Gaels kicked two injury time points to kill the Kiltubrid challenge.  We would like to thank the Gilmartin family in the Wellington Bar for their hospitality after the match.

• Next Weekend:  we have two vital home games against Ballinaglera - Senior, and Sean O' Heslins - Intermediate.  We would appreciate a good turn out of support.

• Club Draw:  The May draw takes place this weekend in Gertie's bar, Kesh.  The card is almost full at this stage.   Will all promoters bring records up to date for this draw.

• Underage:  Kiltubrid Under 14's had a good win over Fenagh on Friday evening last and now have a home game against Aughavas on Friday next.

• Congratulations:   goes to former club fullback Dermot O'Connell and Edel Doherty of Roscrea, County Tipperary whom were married in Roscrea last Friday.

• Intermediate League:  Our intermediate team lost to Annaduff last Sunday in Kiltubrid park.  In a game best forgotten, Kiltubrid can surely play a lot better than this despite the strong opposition, the only bright note being Conor Doherty's return.

• Club Draw:   for May takes place this weekend (27th /28th May), so please all promoters have money in on time, also any outstanding monies for training fund to be handed in for the next weekend

• Leitrim Ladies:   had a great win over Down in the League Quarter Final last Sunday in Carrick.  Our club was proudly represented by Linda Tighe and Naomi Lee with Michael Tighe part of the management.  Best of Luck to them in the semifinal

• Linda Plays For Connacht:    Congratulations to ladies footballer Linda Tighe of Annadale, Drumcong who represented her club and county on the ladies Connacht team in the Interprovincial series. The Western Ladies beat Leinster in the final.

• Underage:    Last week on Monday our schools team were successful against Carrigallen in the Shield semifinal and will play Drumlease in the final on next Monday, 15th May.  On Tuesday our School mini-sevens were unsuccessful against Fenagh and Aughnasheelin. On Thursday the Schools Girls team had a big win over Ballinamore while on Friday Kiltubrid's under 14's were successful against Aughnasheelin, their next game is away to Fenagh Friday 12th May.

• Seniors Win:    Last Saturday evening was a historic day in the club. Kiltubrid park hosted our neighbors Fenagh in the Senior League Div 1. Not too long ago of course both clubs were joined, now it is great to see both clubs putting out two good senior teams.  Fenagh of course came to Kiltubrid red hot favorites for the league points. Were they not so unlucky in the county final last year, and are they not county league champions.  Kiltubrid on the other hand are gaining a reputation as not so much a soft touch on the big day, as maybe not always playing up to their ability when it matters most.  But I can tell you this game was a huge one for this Kiltubrid team. The performance needed to be immense to overcome Fenagh and it was all of this and more.  After an enthralling hours football played with championship fever Kiltubrid emerged winners on a Score of 1 -6 to 0 - 6. The game was a great spectacle, full of the skills of football, the fielding, blocking and tackling was of the highest order, there were huge performances on the Kiltubrid side but it would be unfair to mention them because seventeen men to a man stood tall on Saturday last. John Paul O'Donoghue opened the Scoring with a pointed free after three minutes following two minutes later with another. We had a ten minute gap then before Darren Gilmartin Scored our third point from play. Then we had a Fenagh point from a free before Dara McKiernan Scored our fourth point in the twenty seventh minute of the first half to leave the half time Score at 0 - 4 to 0 - 1. Turning around for the second thirty minutes Fenagh reduced the lead to just one point Scoring a point after one minute followed by another two minutes later. Seven minutes into the second half we had a brilliant 45 meter free sent over the bar from the accurate boot of John Paul O'Donoghue. Five minutes later we had the move of the half involving Darren Gilmartin sending Shane Foley on his way to Score a class goal. The visitors fought hard to rescue the situation Scoring three points in the twenty first minute, the twenty third minute and their final Score in the thirtieth minute. Leading by two points our lads in the defense lines were under severe pressure as Fenagh tried to scale the red and green wall only to be driven back time and time again. Our final Score came from the boot of Shane Foley five minutes into injury time before referee James McCaffrey blew the final whistle to leave the full time Score at 1 - 6 to 0 - 6. • Intermediates Lose:   On Sunday our second string were up in Cloone for a league game against the home side. After a great performance in the first half Kiltubrid wilted somewhat in the second half and eventually Donal Brennan was the undoing of us.  No doubt tired legs from Saturday's game was also a factor.  Next Intermediate game is at home next Sunday to Annaduff.

• Engagement:   Congrats and best of luck to ex. club star Martin Moran, Mullagarve, on his recent engagement to Ms Sandra Tivnan Drumshanbo.

• Senior Ladies:   Failed to field a team against Annaduff on Sunday due to lack of numbers.

• All Ireland Champs:   Congratulations to Ballinamore's St. Felim's College on winning the All Ireland "C" Senior Colleges football final last Sunday.

• Games Off:   Last weekend our Senior and Intermediate games fell victim to the weather, the second time in as many weekends.  Still with ground conditions improving there should be no problem this weekend with our games against Fenagh Senior and Cloone Intermediates.

• Panel Photo:  At our Senior game next Saturday there will be a group photograph taken of all players.  This is for the County Board who are compiling a programme of every club in the Senior Club Championship.   So it is very important that all the panel are there in good time.  Would all players please give this your earnest attention.

• Underage:   Our minor team saw no action last week due to the bad weather.  The Padraig Kelly trained outfit had games cancelled against Melvin Gaels and Dromahaire.  The Under 14 league should be starting this week and the schools mini sevens are due to be played this evening the 3rd of May in Kiltubrid Park.  Would all players please check fixtures in the Leitrim Observer.   Commiseration's to Brendan Meehan and his Drumshanbo Vocational School team mates on losing the Connacht Vocational Schools Junior C football final.

• Underage Training:  There will be under 14 training next week in the park with David McGirl.

• Senior Training:   There will be Senior training and Intermediate training for all home based players in the park at 7.30pm sharp on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  Unbelievable as it seems there are a few players whose attitude to training is not what it should be, every excuse imaginable is used and it just shows the level of immaturity these players have.  These are not fringe players but men with ability to star on the Senior team, it seems these fellows don't know that with ability comes responsibility.

• Game Off:   Our Senior game with Aughawillian was postponed last weekend due to the unplayable pitch.  The game may be played next weekend along with our intermediate fixture against Ballinamore.   Click here to check fixtures list.

• School Game:   Last Monday week Drumcong played their last game in their section of the large schools league against Drumlease.   Despite a much improved performance from our young boys and girls it wasn't enough to fashion a win.  We now find ourselves in a playoff game for the Shield Competition after Easter, so hopefully after the holidays we will come back refreshed and be looking forward to our remaining games.  Our panel of players giving of their best were: A. • Presidents visit:     Last Monday week the president of the GAA Joe McDonagh visited our local school, Drumcong.  He and his traveling party of County Board Chairman Des Quinn, County Development Officer Michael Charles and County Coach  for the National Schools James Holohan were welcomed to the school by the club treasurer Edmund Doyle and under age trainer Pat McWeeney and received by Principle Angela White, fellow teachers Mary McKiernan,  Finola McGowan and Olivia McHugh and the student body.    Mr. McDonagh addressed the pupils for some minutes and told them how important the skills of the game were and to always listen to their trainers.  Sound Advice Joe !   He also told them how important it was to have a sport in life and how good it would be to lose oneself in their sport when other pressures such as exams etc., would come to bare later in their academic lives.  He then made a presentation of a ball to student  Michael McGirl and also a presentation to Principle Angela White.  We would like to wish Mr. McDonagh a happy retirement and congratulate him on a job well done.

• Schools Games:    Last Monday Drumcong faced their second game in the large schools league.  This game was against Leitrim National School and was played in Pairc Sean in Carrick.  Neither the hollowed sod of Pairc Sean or the earlier visit of the  GAA President  could inspire our young pupils to a win, however it was a much improved performance by Drumcong.   The panel of players was as follows:  A. • Meeting:   There will be a very important meeting next Friday night after training in the Club rooms at 9 o'clock.

• Get Well:   Get well wishes to Conor Doherty who had a short stay in hospital with food poisoning,  and also a speedy recovery to full fitness to Karl Scollan and Barry Doyle.

• Minor Training:  Training in the park on this Tuesday evening at 8pm.  Full turnout of all players expected.

• Senior Girls:   Training on Saturday morning @ 10pm and Wednesday evenings @ 8pm.

• Schools:   Last Monday week our local school Drumcong kicked off their league with a home game against Kinlough. The game was played against Kinlough in quite atrocious conditions with a strong wind and very mucky underfoot conditions.  Despite our Boys and Girls best efforts a much stronger and cohesive Kinlough team ran out worthy winners.  On Monday the 10th we were playing Leitrim National School in Carrick, also that is the day President Mc Donagh is due to call on our school. • Katrina's Achievements: Congratulations to lady footballer Catriona Bohan who won first place in Ireland for Graphic Design in the National Apprentice competition. Catriona is a third year student in NCAD College, Dublin.

• Athletics: Congratulations to local footballer Paul Evans, Naomi Lee and Denise Murray on their recent good form on the athletics field.

• Senior Team: Next Sunday our Seniors have their first Senior league game against Glenfarne. This is an away game and is sure to be a tough one, but with the right attitude and a bit of heart anything is possible, again a little bit of support would be appreciated.

• County Fail To Louth: Hard luck to our County team who went down to a stronger and hungrier Louth side in Paric Sean on Sunday.

• Congrats To Roscommon: Well done to the neighbors Roscommon who have reached the league semi-final by beating Donegal on Sunday afternoon. Good luck in Clones against Derry.

• County Hurlers: Flying high up to Sunday were our county hurlers before they lost narrowly to Mayo. Hard luck to the panel and management who have had a great run to date.

Monday 3rd April, 2000

• Congratulations: Belated congratulations to our new neighbours Fenagh St. Cillians on their recent success in last years league final and also Aughnasheelin on their great success in Scór Connacht Finals.

• Lotto: The following people are to get together with a view to setting up a lotto committee for the club. This seems to be the way to go for the local clubs to raise a few pounds, but as yet the matter is only up for discussion. The people are: T.P. Keane, E. Doyle, B. Doyle, G. Gilmartin, R. Harris, T Redican, P.J. Meehan, A. Lee, C. Carroll & K Nealon.

• Website: Over the last few weeks Brendan Doyle has been busy compiling information and old newspaper articles etc,. for our club website. Soon it's hoped to have a demonstration of same in some of the pubs, so keep an eye on this space for news of our official launch.

• Ladies Leave: Good luck and best wishes from everyone in Kiltubrid GAA to Grainne Gill and Siobhan Foley who have emigrated to England last week to take up nursing, Grainne and Siobhan were star players with Kiltubrid ladies teams for all of the nineties, and we wish them well in their chosen career.

• Birthday boy: Happy Birthday to James Gill who celebrated his eighteenth birthday last week.

• Intermediate Football: Our first league match of the Millennium takes place next Sunday morning in Manorhamilton. It's a Division 2 - Intermediate game and has an early throw-in of 12 O'clock, players please - you all know the drill by now !

• Intermediate Management: At this stage we would like to welcome our new management team for the Intermediate team - Chris Carroll is the manager, Tony Redican will act as a selector along with Team Captain who is not yet decided.

• Senior Challenge: Kiltubrid seniors had a good victory over Drumreilly in Kiltubrid Park last weekend. It's early days yet, but I'm sure Mickey Dorrigan is pleased with some of the form displayed last Saturday.

• School Football: Drumcong Schools team had their first game last Monday evening against Kinlough. Sorry no report at the time of writing. For this game we will be missing Michael McGirl from our panel of players. Michael got his appendix out last week and his loss will be sorely felt from our schools campaign.  Get well soon from all your pals. !

• GAA President Visits:   Mr. Joe McDonagh - President of the GAA will visit our National School in Drumcong next Monday 10th of April. His last planned visit was cancelled due to the sudden death of Leo Kenny, RIP, a few weeks ago.

• On the March:   Congrats to the following young people who made their debut with the  famous Kiltubrid Pipe Band at the Sligo St. Patrick's Day Parade - Siobhan Carroll,  Geraldine Carroll, Emer Kelly, Raymond Foley and Gavin Kelly. May your stay with the band take you to many interesting venues at home or away.

• Leitrim Hurlers:   Congrats to our County Hurling team and management on their continuing league success with victory over Cavan on Sunday last.

• Colleges All Ireland Semi Final:    We say well done to Ballinamore's St. Felim's College Team who now get a second bite at the cherry following their draw with Ballymahon in Dromard, Co. Longford on Sunday after extra time. See fixtures for replay date, time and venue. Good luck to our old club associate and star forward Padraig Leydon who

• Leitrim Ladies:   Well done to the Leitrim Ladies Senior team including our local reps. who had a fine victory over the Galway ladies in Annaduff on Sunday last.  Score line 3-8 to 0-13.

• U16 Boys:   Game against Aughavas was conceded due to shortfall in numbers to field a team on Sunday morning last. At this stage of going to press we believe there is a game against Fenagh on this Saturday. Check fixtures for details.

Monday 27th Mar, 2000

• Games Off:   Our U 16 game against Carrigallen was called off last Sunday due to Kiltubrid Park being unplayable, also falling victim to the field was a senior challenge game against Drumreilly.

• Leitrim Lose:   Hard luck to Leitrim teams last weekend, Leitrim Seniors losing to Offaly in the league and Leitrim Minors, of which Shane Foley is a member, losing to Galway.

• Important Meeting:   There will be an important club meeting in Cardiff's, Drumcong next Saturday night 1st April.   It is vitally important that all club members attend this important meeting at 8.30pm sharp.

• Kiltubrid Ladies:    Everyone in Kiltubrid GAA would like to wish Grainne Gill and Siobhan Foley a bon voyage and best of luck as they emigrate to England to take up nursing.  Grainne and Siobhan both starred with Kiltubrid and Leitrim teams for all of the nineties and will be badly missed from Kiltubrid Ladies Senior team.  The ladies played their first league game of the year but were out of luck on this occasion.

• Birthday Greetings:   Happy birthday to club player James Gill who has reached the ripe old age of eighteen and was celebrating last weekend.

• Club Draw:   The monthly club draw took place last weekend in Drumcong and the winners were £100 - Bridie Gilmartin, £10 each Kieran McKeon, Tone Reynolds and Clare Gilmartin.  The club would like to thank everyone who supported the draw, it is not an exaggeration to say that without your generous support of our draw the club would be in serious financial trouble.   Also a big thank you to P.J. Meehan for all the effort he puts into the smooth running of the draw.

• Schools Football:    Drumcong school league starts next week Monday 3rd April with a home game against Kinlough in Kiltubrid park at 6.30 p.m. sharp, it is very important that parents give these young players all the support they can.

• Training:   Club training Friday night at 8 O' Clock sharp for all Senior and Intermediate players.  No excuses now with the long evenings.

Monday 20th Mar, 2000

• Meeting:  There will be a loto committee meeting in Cardiff's, Drumcong next Saturday night at 9 O'clock.

• Presentation:   Last Saturday night there was a very well attended function in Lynchs of Kilclare, at which medals were presented to our Dolan Cup winning team of last year.  There were also presentations to Padraig and Lucy Kelly for their unwavering dedication and commitment to this team over the years.  The club is again in dept to the Lynch family for the use of their premises and also to Padraig for the spot prize.  Of course we would like to thank all our sponsors and again our patrons who supported the function.

• County Lose:   Our County U-21 team suffered a heavy defeat at the hands and indeed feet of Mayo in the Connacht Championship last Saturday.  Our own Karl Scollan was named on the starting line up but unfortunately Karl had to cry off before the game due to a 'Flu virus, we wish him a speedy recovery.

• Senior Challenge:  Last Sunday morning in sun soaked Kiltubrid park, we played our first Senior challenge of the year against Gortletteragh.  After a well contested and sporting game Kiltubrid emerged winners on a Score of 0-13 to 1-7.  I'm sure the game was of some use to Mickey and Tony and indeed the Gortletteragh lads.

• Training:   Training next Friday night in the Park at the usual time.  There will be another Senior challenge next weekend.

• Club Draw:   The club draw takes place in Drumcong next Sunday night the 26th.  Would all promoters please have all the money in place in time for the draw.

Monday 13th Mar, 2000

• Sympathy:  The club would like to extend its sincere sympathy to the Meehan and Monaghan families on the occasion of the death of Bernard Meehan, Mohenevogue.  May he rest in Peace

• Get Well Soon: We would like to wish club player Junior Guckian a speedy and complete recovery from a knee injury which necessitates some surgery.  Hope to see you back in the red and green soon, Junior.

• Bon Voyage: We say Bon Voyage but not good bye to all forward Brian Foley who is off on his travels around Europe for a few months.  We wish Brian and Carrie an enjoyable break, remember we will want you back "fit and well" later in the summer so not too much of that rich continental food and drink ya boy ya.

• Welcome Home:   As we say Bon Voyage to Brian we would like to welcome home another ace forward Conor Doherty who has just returned from this travels abroad in South America.  Looks like there might be a Continental and South American influence in our play this summer.

• Sympathy:   On behalf of everyone in Kiltubrid GAA we extend our sincere sympathy to the Allen Gaels Club and in particular the Kenny family, Drumshanbo on the sudden death of a great GAA man and a fine gentleman, Leo Kenny.  Leo had many friends and admirers in Kiltubrid and will be sadly missed in the area.  May he rest in Peace.

• Congratulations:    Congratulations to club player Darren Gilmartin, a student at Sligo IT and ace handballer, who celebrated his 21st amongst family and friends last weekend.

Monday 6th Mar, 2000

• Buffet:  Last Friday night the club held its annual Buffet in Cardiff's, Drumcong.  The night was a huge success and probably the best attended social yet.   A big thank you to Brendan Doyle for his excellent demonstration of our new Website.  Thank you to all who helped with old photographs, programmes or articles, also remember we still want lots more.  Congratulations goes to Hubert Murray on being voted our Club Man of the Year.  Hubert was our Team Manager last year and saw our double promotion from Division 2 to Division 1 and from Division 3 to Division 2, making it our most successful year to date.  Senior player of the year award went to Karl Scollan, the Drumcong lad was a star in every game last year and is presently a member of the County Under 21 panel.  Karl continues to do his family, club and county proud.  Junior player award went to Proinsias Reynolds, our eloquent Chairman Ray Harris described the man as an inspirator.  It speaks volumes that Proinsias was also a close contender for Senior player of the year.  A huge thank you to all the people who donated prizes for the raffle on the night, to the people who sold the tickets, to the Cardiff's for the use of their premises and of course to Kevin and Camillus for the music.  While all this backslapping and so on is going on it would be easy to forget the most important people of all, that is, the ladies who prepared the food and looked after us all so well on the night, to Edmund, Brendan and Ray for the green and red flags and balloons and Eilish for the red and green serviettes all of which was a nice touch and added to the occasion.

• League Final:   Last Sunday we played our long awaited Division 2 League Final against St. Mary's.  The game played in almost perfect conditions, or a good sod in Pairc Sean, was very much a game of two halves.  In the first half Kiltubrid did not bother to play and let St. Mary's ran up a lead of 1-8 to 0-3.  To be fair Carrick enjoyed the benefit of a fresh breeze in this half, but in the second half a much more positive Kiltubrid team began to make in roads into the Carrick lead and hit 2-2 to Carrick's 0-4 for this half.  A factor in this defeat was the fact that we had not had a game of any sort since last November and it certainly showed in our play, though ever St. Mary's were well worth their victory and we would like to heartily congratulate them on their fine win.

• Video:   Well done to Owen Meehan for the fine job that he did on the video of the match last Sunday.  It made useful if somewhat painful watching on Sunday evening.

Monday 28th Feb, 2000

• Sympathy: Sincere sympathy goes to the McGirl and Gill families on the death of Mary Ann Moran, Corryard, Drumshanbo.   May she rest in piece.

• Game Off:  Our minor game against Melvin Gaels was called off last Sunday as a mark of respect for the late Mary Ann Moran, grandmother to minor player David McGirl.

• Captain:  The club is pleased to announce that we have elected a new Senior Captain to lead us into  Senior football in the new millennium.  He is John Paul O'Donohghue, youngest son of John and Sue O'Donoghue, Keshcarrigan.  John Paul was a very popular choice of the players at a recently held players meeting.  He spent his formative years coming up through the ranks and has won medals at every level on the way up.  Indeed his leadership qualities became apparent in our league semi-final replay against Aughnasheelin when his two brilliant and inventive goals galvanized our place in Senior football.  J.P. is one of the gentlemen and is sure to have an excellent rapore with his fellow players,   the same could be said of his predecessor Chris Carroll who was our Club Captain for the last few years.

• Selectors:  The senior selectors for the coming year will be senior manager and trainer Mickey Dorrigan,   Club Captain: John Paul O'Donoghue and Vice Chairman Tony Redican.  Tony is a tough disciplinarian and a great motivator, who won't be slow to speak his mind in the dressing room.  We welcome his appointment.

• Buffet:   Our annual buffet takes place on Friday night next the 3rd March in Cardiff's, Drumcong.   Tickets are a modest £5, but don't worry there are still some available from any club member.  This year the club is embarking on a new venture which will incorporate an awards ceremony and it will take the following format:  Senior player of the Year, Junior player of the Year and Clubman of the Year.  Also there will be some news and perhaps a demonstration of our new website.  All in all it should make for a good nights craic and not to be missed.

• Minors Lose: Last Sunday our Minor team had its first outing in the Minor league against Drumkeeran in Kiltubrid park.   The game was played in atrocious conditions and Drumkeeran emerged winners on the Score 3-08 to 1-07.  The team on this occasion was S. Guckian, B McKiernan, D McGirl, N. Foley, A. Bohan, J. Gill, S. Foley, A. Kelly, M. Earley, A McKiernan, K. Farrell, G. McGovern.  Conspicuous by their absence were K. Scollan,  S. Gilmartin,  D. Keaney, G. Foley, D. McKeon, while Brendan Meehan was a huge loss.  Better luck in the next games lads.

• Presentation:   Next Friday night at the Leitrim GAA Annual Awards, Shane Foley will receive his Young Player of the Year award.  I believe the Leitrim team of the Millennium will also receive their awards on the night.  We wish Shane and his party an enjoyable night and congratulate him from the club.

• Club Draw:   The club draw takes place next week in Lynch's.  It's Gerry Gilmartin's and Kevin Keaney's turn to run the Draw this month, also a big thank you to those who supported the draw in the other pubs during the month.

• Training:  Training next Friday night at 7.45pm sharp for all Senior and Intermediate players.

• Buffet Tickets: Would anyone who has outstanding money for Buffet Tickets please hand it in after Friday nights training.   Also any unpaid membership please.

• League Final:  Our Division II league final against St. Mary's maybe next weekend.  Check fixtures for time and place.

• Hurling:  Leitrim Hurlers achieved a draw against Monaghan in Scotstown on Sunday.  Kiltubrids Manager Michael Dorrigan is the current secretary of the County Hurling Board.

• David Celebrates 21st:   Congratulations to David Tighe, son of Michael and Marian Tighe, Annadale, Drumcong who celebrated his 21st last weekend.

• Ladies AGM:  at the AGM of Kiltubrid Ladies last Friday night the following officers were elected for the coming year:  Chairperson: Mirelda McKeon, Secretary: Emer Horan,  Treasurer: Catriona McKeon,  PRO: Naomi Lee,  Team trainers:  Darren Gilmartin &  Noel Gill.

• Congratulations: Goes this week to ace defender John McGovern of Drumhubrid, Drumcong.  John was recently presented with his apprentice plumber of the year award by Minister for Trade, Tourism and Employment Mr. Tom Kitt at  a function in Letterkenny.  It seems John is as efficient in his chosen career as he is at dealing with knacky forwards.

• Deirdre for Secretary: Congratulations to Deirdre Harris who has been elected Secretary to the Leitrim Ladies Board.   Deirdre the holder of an All Ireland medal with Leitrim will do a great job and we wish her luck and success.

• Ladies AGM:  The Kiltubrid Ladies AGM takes place next Friday 18th at 9pm at Cardiffs.

• Sympathy: Sincere sympathy to the Carroll family, Carrickport on the death recently of T.P. Reynolds, St. Mary's Close, Carrick-on-Shannon and formerly Eslin Bridge.
